Squash is a sport that requires a high level of physical conditioning to excel. Players serious about their squash spend a lot of time and effort on their training programmes, working hard to squeeze in all of their sessions each week. It can thus be frustrating when workouts have to be moved or missed when work/family/social commitments intrude, and confine time and space availability.
So what can be done when busy work schedules mean late nights at the office? Or when you’re away travelling with business or holidaying with the family, or during holiday periods such as Christmas when many gyms and squash clubs are operating on reduced opening hours? Getting regular access to standard training facilities can often be difficult, or at the very least extremely inconvenient for many people in these circumstances.
This is where a more minimalist approach can be very useful. With a bit of creativity, sessions working on the major physical elements such as power, endurance, and stability can all still be carried out when space and equipment are confined. To make those sessions as squash-specific as possible, we’ve created a series of ‘limited space’ sessions for our members here on SquashSkills – perfect to carry out in the comfort of your own living room, hotel, or office (though you probably better check with the boss first before donning your training gear and dropping down into a few dozen press-ups at work in the afternoon!).
We have a variety of limited space sessions now up on the site, covering core stability, power, and general conditioning, with more being added every month. All need no more space than a small room, with no equipment necessary beyond a couch or chair – perfect to use when you’re away travelling, stuck in the office, or simply haven’t got access to enough space in which to complete a normal workout.
