Put it into practice: Sustainable Solo Practice with Nick Matthew

5th October 2020

This week on SquashSkills we’re delighted to welcome back 3x World Champion and one of the all-time greats of the game, Nick Matthew!

One of the best players to ever come out of the UK, Nick had a hugely successful career spent at the very top of the game. He’s put together for us an exclusive playlist focused on solo practice drills – particularly pertinent to many players right now, with restrictions in place on what we can and can’t do on court due to the pandemic.

As Nick acknowledges, solo training can be a little dull if you just go onto the court and hit a ball without much thought as regards session structure. The key theme to this playlist is how to make your solo practice sustainable – that is, something you’ll be able to frequently return to with a set series of drills in mind, and a plan as to how to put everything together for an enjoyable, productive on-court workout.

There are lots of different ways to approach solo training, as regards to the practices that you do, the time you spend on court, and when you actually do it. Nick covers all this along with his personal favourite routines, to give you a fantastic solo training resource.

We’ve put together a comprehensive solo session for you to try, based on the insights from Nick’s playlist. Watch through the videos linked here first, then jump on court and put it into practice!
